MSO has 3 unique opportunities for shadowing and clinical experience in Waco: the Clinical Skills Program, volunteering at Waco Family Medicine, and volunteering at Hillcrest.

Clinical Skills Program

What is the CSP?

Each CSP meeting is an hour-long session held in the afternoons/evenings where students will get experience learning clinical skills and network with local healthcare professionals, such as physicians, nurses, physician assistants, and EMTs.

Why should I apply to be a permanent member?

This semester, the CSP is reserving 10 seats for permanent members. Permanent members have guaranteed seats to sign up for at all of the CSP meetings. Additionally, the CSP is partnering with the Global Health Cell to participate in Clinical Skills labs at Baylor's Louise Herrington School of Nursing in Dallas, TX. The Clinical Skills lab at the LHSON is reserving 10 seats for CSP members to sign up for! Permanent members must attend at least 3 CSP meetings on the Baylor campus throughout the semester. A tentative schedule for CSP meetings is provided in the application, so please look over that to determine your availability.

  • The application is available in the weekly email!

What if I don't get a permanent member spot, but I still want to come to meetings?

Aside from the 10 seats for permanent members, the CSP will open up an additional 10-15 spots for all MSO members to sign up for before each CSP meeting, so keep an eye out in these weekly MSO emails for sign up links!

Do I get service hours for attending the CSP meetings?

The CSP is not a cell, so you will not receive service hours. However, you will receive one community credit for each CSP meeting that you attend.

Waco Family Medicine

We volunteer at multiple Waco Family Medicine clinics in Waco, including but not limited to the Martin Luther King Jr. clinic, the McLennan Community College clinic, and the MacArthur Pediatrics clinic. Volunteers help clinics in a unique way by showing up where needed, performing tasks as given by nurses and doctors. Volunteers may also have the opportunity to shadow, at the physician's discretion. The opportunity is a great way for students to observe how medical clinics function, engage with local healthcare professions, and demonstrate their enthusiasm & curiosity for medicine.

Volunteering times are Mondays through Fridays 8 am - 5 pm. Volunteers must dedicate a minimum of 2 hours/week.

Baylor Scott and White - Hillcrest

At the Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Hillcrest, volunteers are involved in a number of clinical service opportunities. Hillcrest is a healthcare system offering many services — professional healing, nurturing, caring, maturity and privacy – that volunteers have the opportunity to engage in and observe. There is a limit to approximately 10 volunteers per semester.

Volunteering times are Mondays through Fridays 8 am - 5 pm. Volunteers must dedicate a minimum of 4 hours/week. Volunteers must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
