The Poverty Relief Tissue consists of Salvation Army Community Kitchen, Early Morning Breakfast, World Hunger Relief Farm, Caritas of Waco, and Shepherd’s Heart.

At Salvation Army Soup Kitchen, we get to serve meals to the people in Waco who are in need! You will have the opportunity to build relationships with the people of the Waco community!

Volunteers will package meals, prepare drinks, and clean SA communal areas as meals are distributed.

Volunteering times:

  • Monday and Fridays from 4:30-6:30pm

Early morning breakfast

The goal of Early Morning Breakfast is to serve and form meaningful relationships with the homeless and impoverished of Waco.

**An orientation and background check are required.

Volunteering times:

  • Monday- Thursday and Saturday 5:45am-7:20am

World Hunger Relief Farm

The World Hunger Relief Farm is an organization committed to the alleviation of food insecurity and malnutrition through sustainable agriculture and community development. Volunteering at the farm would include working in the garden and tending to the livestock. If you like to get your hands dirty while knowing you are doing good, this is the cell for you! 

Volunteering times:

  • Fridays 3:00-5

  • Other hours may be offered if needed

Caritas of Waco

Caritas of Waco helps and protects individuals of all backgrounds from hunger and food insecurity. Volunteers will be volunteering at their pantry location and/or thrift store locations.

During Store and Food Pantry Hours but closed every second and fourth Thursday afternoon of each month

**An online application on the Caritas website under Volunteer (scroll to the bottom of the page) is required.

Pantry Location: Members will help fill shopping carts with food and bag produce for clients.

Pantry volunteering times:

  • Monday-Friday, 8:30-11am and 1-3pm

Thrift Store Locations: Members will organize and receive donations to the store, assist customers with items to their cars, and maintain the tidiness of the store. 

Food Pantry (300 South 15th Street)

  • Monday-Friday, 8:00-11:15 am and 12:45-3pm

Hidden Treasures Warehouse (3912 Bosque Blvd.)

  • Monday-Friday, 9am-4pm

  • Saturday, 10am-4pm

Shepherd’s Heart

Shepherd’s Heart is a mobile food pantry that aims to provide food to those in need. Volunteers will be processing and distributing donations. Those who are unable to volunteer in person can contribute through canned food donations.

This semester, MSO will be partnering with AED, Earle Hall, and BMSA to integrate Loaves of Love into the Shepherd’s Heart Cell. Volunteers will have the opportunity to serve for 2 hours bi-weekly from 4:30-6:30 pm on the dates listed on THIS FLYER, including 30 minutes of set up, 1 hour of sandwich making, and 30 minutes of tear down. It will be a great on-campus volunteer event, and members will get to meet members within the Pre-Health committee outside of MSO!

Mobile Distributions

  • Every 3rd Saturday of the month @ Baylor campus
